The UK Open Nationals are the annual championships of the British Finn Association, regularly attracting some 40-50 boats. In 2012 they will be held in Falmouth between 4th and 8th May, prior to the Gold Cup. It is expected that many international competitors for the Gold Cup will also compete in the Finn UK Open Nationals in order to familiarise themselves with the sailing area.
Organised by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, the 2012 Finn Gold Cup will be sailed in the wide expanses of Falmouth Bay between the 13th and 18th of May
The Finn is a single-handed, cat-rigged dinghy. It was entered by designer Rickard Sarby in the competition held after the 1948 Olympics to select the single-handed dinghy for the 1952 Olympics. Since its debut in 1952 the Finn has featured in every Olympic regatta, making it the most long-serving Olympic class.
The Gold Cup is the annual World Championship of the Finn Class, with a fleet of up to 100 boats from as many as 50 nations.
The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club was formed in 1871, and is the 15th oldest “Royal” yacht club in England.

Falmouth Watersports Centre hosts a number of watersports clubs e.g. sailing, canoeing, diving, rowing with the aim of increasing the number of people participating in watersports.
It has been a week of extremes at the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Finn Gold Cup in Falmouth, UK and the final day was no different. Though a medal race was attempted, it was soon abandoned and an hour later racing was completely abandoned for the day as the wind disappeared. This left Ben Ainslie (GBR) as Finn World Champion for the sixth time. Ed Wright (GBR) took the silver while Jonas Hogh-Christesen (DEN) took the bronze.
